Preschool
Welcome to the Philip J. Solondz Preschool
at Temple Beth Shalom, Livingston, NJ
Temple Beth Shalom, a member of the United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism, is committed to the transmission of Jewish tradition and practice through the generations. It is our hope and goal that all who pass through our doors leave with a greater understanding and love of Judaism, a desire to live a Jewish life and a feeling that they are part of a welcoming, vibrant Jewish community.
Each Child is Unique and Valued
At the Philip J. Solondz Preschool at Temple Beth Shalom, each child is a unique and valued member of the Preschool family. Children learn that coming to school involves developing many skills including sharing, taking turns, using language to work through relationships with teachers and peers, and following directions. Many of our projects incorporate learning Jewish values and celebrating holidays, and by working on these projects the children further develop cognitive skills. The child’s sense of excitement and learning is fostered through these processes while the child’s sense of wonder about the world is nurtured. Children integrate and expand what they have learned through play. Time to play is, therefore, an important part of our daily activities.

Jewish Values, Attitudes, & Customs
At the Philip J. Solondz Preschool at Temple Beth Shalom, we start with the child, learn from the child, and then lead based on the child’s interests and past experience, helping each one move in new directions as she or he is ready. Children build in their play and play builds children. Through play and teacher-facilitated activities and interactions at TBS Preschool, a child learns to think through and solve problems, to understand roles and relationships, to creatively arrange and rearrange possibilities, and to work together with peers to build good social concepts. TBS Preschool is first and foremost a warm and friendly environment where Jewish values, attitudes, and customs are intertwined with the overall learning experience, addressing the essential growing needs of the child. Our complete readiness curriculum prepares our graduates who go off to private and public elementary programs to succeed.
